“After 39 years of tireless searching, Chicha Mariani was reunited with her granddaughter Clara Anahí, one of the greatest longings of Argentine society in the recovery of grandchildren disappeared during the civic-military dictatorship,” read a statement by the Clara Anahí Foundation, set up by 92-year-old Mariani.
The statement confirmed that rigorous genetic testing had established a biological link with 99.9% certainty.
Clara Anahí Mariani was taken when she was just three months old by military officers who killed her mother, Diana Esmeralda Teruggi, on 24th November, 1976. Her father, Daniel Enrique Mariani, remained in La Plata to search for Clara Anahí, but was also disappeared by the military on 1st August, 1977.
Clara Anahí is the 120th missing grandchild to be recovered by the Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo and other human rights organisations.
