A 20-year-old man shot by a Metropolitan Police officer in the throat, abdomen, and testicles last night in La Boca is in intensive care.

Lucas Cabello was on his way home from a kiosk after picking up a milanesa sandwich with his two-year-old daughter when an argument allegedly broke out between himself and an unidentified officer.

“They argued and the police shot to kill, three times,” said a neighbour to Diario Popular.

The officer allegedly fired his weapon at Cabello, rupturing his spleen, causing him to lose a testicle, and the ability to move his hands and legs. Página 12 reported the officer claimed he had a “legitimate defence.”

“This is the work of a nutjob, a guy that is not fit to have a gun,” said Cabello’s father, Rubén Cabello to Página 12. “This is a case of being trigger happy.” He added this morning that his son “is fighting for his life” at Argerich Hospital.

Ricardo Pedace, deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police, stated that “the officer currently remains in custody and is at the disposal of the judge, who ordered a series of measures. The Federal Police is in charge of the case.” However, Cabello’s lawyer said this morning that the suspect “has just been released, and that puts the investigation at risk.”

Around 100 neighbours took to the streets of La Boca to protest against police brutality and impunity last night.
