A court in Tucumán has ruled that the provincial elections that took place on 23rd August should be annulled and a new vote called to elect both provincial and municipal authorities.
The Administrative Appeals Court of Tucumán decided to “partially accept” the recourse presented by the opposition Acuerdo para el Bicentenario (APB) on 4th September as part of its accusations of fraud.
The ruling Frente para la Victoria (FpV) is expected to appeal the decision within the next 48 hours.
Earlier this week, the Provincial Electoral Board released the final recount of votes, confirming a strong win for FpV candidate Juan Manzur. Former health minister Manzur won by a margin of almost 12%, or 111,533 votes, over his APB rival, José Cano.
However, the same administrative court had earlier issued an injunction to prevent the Electoral Court from declaring an official winner until it had delivered a verdict on the opposition’s claims of fraud.
