Frente Para la Victoria (FPV) candidate Rosana Bertone was elected governor of Tierra del Fuego at yesterday’s second round.
The current Senator for Tierra del Fuego defeated Ushuaia’s mayor Federico Sciurano —candidate for UnirTDF (UCR and the Movimiento Popular Fueguino)— by 49.75% of the vote against 46.30%.
Bertone —who will succeed another woman, outgoing governor Fabiana Ríos from the Partido Social Patagónico— showed gratitude towards FPV’s presidential candidate, Daniel Scioli, and stated that “from now on I am the number one activist so he can become the president of all Argentines.”
Sciurano conceded defeat as he informed the public that once he finishes his term in six months, he will retire from politics “for quite a long period.”
For the first time, the same political party will be in charge of both the capital and the provincial government, as FPV’s Walter Vuoto was elected mayor of Ushuaia yesterday.
Bertone had won the first round of the election last Sunday with 42.3% of the votes, while Sciurano obtained 34.2% of the votes.
Tierra del Fuego marks the second provincial victory for FPV this year, after the party won the province of Salta on 17th May.
