Alberto Nisman’s ex-wife, Judge Sandra Arroyo Salgado, presented today the experts’ report into the death of the prosecutor carried out on behalf of the plaintiffs. “Alberto Nisman was the victim of a homicide,” she said.
In a press conference this afternoon, Arroyo Salgado, who is a plaintiff in the case, told the press that “the report completely rules out the accident and suicide hypotheses.”
The report was based on the analysis of the photos and videos of the autopsy and of Nisman’s flat, as well as other studies that are part of the investigation.
The conclusions of the report indicate that the calibre .22 gun found in the scene was indeed shot and caused Nisman’s death, and confirmed that there was no powder in the prosecutor’s hand — both conclusions are consistent with the official autopsy.
It was also informed that Nisman had traces of caffeine and a small amount of alcohol in his stomach, but was not drunk at the time of his death, as had been previously reported.
The report also found that there was a period of agony, which is incompatible with cadaveric spasm. “It was affirmed in the official autopsy that Nisman’s body showed cadaveric spasm in his right hand, which would lead one to think about suicide, but we can affirm with certainty that that sign did not exist,” said Arroyo Salgado.
Another conclusion of the report indicates that “the position in which the body was found was not final. The body has been moved.”
Finally, the report states that the trajectory of the bullet, which entered “centimetres” away from the ear from a distance of less than a centimetre, was “from right to left, from bottom to top, and from the back to the front.”
Shortly after Arroyo Salgado’s press conference, the prosecutor in charge of the case, Viviana Fein, told the press she will now have to “evaluate the findings of the experts presented by the plaintiff, consult with other experts, and listen to the members of the [Supreme Court’s] Forensic Medical Body [who carried out the official autopsy].”
At the moment, “nothing lets me categorically affirm whether it was a suicide or a homicide,” said Fein. She also pointed out there are still elements in the investigation, such as images, videos, and computers, that are being studied.
